On, October 5, 2010, Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett joined numerous local elected officials and business and community leaders to celebrate the official launch of the Ripley District in downtown Silver Spring. The launch featured a groundbreaking ceremony for 1150 Ripley Street, a new 17-floor, 417,000 square-foot, 286-unit apartment complex being developed by Washington Property Company. It is the first major construction project within the Ripley District in almost 20 years. Guests enjoyed a catered lunch provided by the local tastes of Olazzo, Negril, the Jamaican Eatery and the Big Greek Café. A ceremonial groundbreaking led by Charles K. Nulsen, III of WPC took place following the program.
